Airplay without mirroring in iOS10

IT looks like it is possible to airplay video from specific apps like YouTube and Netflix without mirroring. You have to select the airplay icon in the app. This is a problem for some less funded app developers that we used to be able to connect though.

You can also enable from within control centre as explained above. It has nothing to do with "less funded apps" and it is up to the developer whether they enable or specifically block it. They can change it at any time and if there is a glitch it is their responsibility to fix it.

Hi. In iOS 10, the normal AirPlay menu is on the right hand (player) page of the Control Center. Just to confuse you 😉

Swipe up to access the control panel. Then swipe right again when music is playing and select the Apple TV. The music will play without mirroring the screen.

Unfortunately Apple is now calling the feature Airplay Mirroring, implying it will be on both screens. Frustrating for me as well....

i'm so disappointed with the new iOS because of this issue. apple majorly messed this one up. I've found that it doesn't mirror if you are responding to a text message from the lock screen but otherwise there's no way to use multiple apps while using AirPlay to watch videos. I contacted apple and they said to submit feedback. Hopefully with enough complaints they will fix this issue. Wish I could switch back to the old iOS.....so much for improvements.

I don't think this work for video applications. I used to be able to airplay video from some of my apps and text and browse at the same time without issues. Now with iOS 10 if I leave the app, it stops the airplay video, so now I have to keep the app open and ensure my phone doesn't go to sleep -very unfortunate.

That is dependent on the apps

When I first tried it, by swiping to the second screen, I was not able to see my apple TV's, but now I see them (not sure if that was a fix in 10.0.2 when I updated a few days later or what). But when I first tried it, I was only able to see my Apple TV's in the first screen, which is forcing mirroring the IPhone. I'm glad my video is being normally streaming now to Apple TV.

My problem was solved.. I was not able to video stream to Apple TV without mirroring.. but now I am able to do it if I swipe to the left, as I can choose between my Phone or Apple TV's to stream. I guess this only needs to look better in the next IOS updates.
